Mount Kenya University (MKU) Closed Down Indefinitely Over Political Uncertainty In The Country

mkuMount Kenya University (MKU) has closed down its Thika Campus following political uncertainty in the country and tension in the institution.

The students have protested against the institution’s system and management.

”Following consultation and assessment of the current situation, the university senate has resolved to suspend learning and University operations indefinitely at Thika campus,” read a memo dated 9 October.

The students are required to leave the premises by noon.

Students have accused the management of pocketing monies meant for the students welfare, locking out students who do not conform to the fees payment methods.

The University of Nairobi (UoN) was also shut down on October 3 shut down for what the management termed as ‘the deteriorating security situation.’

Students had been out on the streets protesting against the arrest of their former student leader and now Embakasi East MP, Babu Owino.

Owino was apprehended for incitement to violence and abusive language against the President.

The students also accused Vice Chancellor, Professor Mbithi of ethnic profiling and poor management of the institution of higher learning.
