Mob attacks police officers during attempt to rescue murder suspect in Narok

Police officers in Narok County were forced to withdraw from Mogoto village after a mob turned on them while they attempted to rescue a murder suspect from an enraged crowd.
The incident occurred on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at about 1.30pm in Mogoto village, Sagamian Location, Narok Amalo Sub-County.
According to a police incident report, officers from Tendwet Police Station, led by the Officer Commanding the Station (OCS) and accompanied by the area chief, went to the village following reports of a murder.
Upon arrival, the officers found villagers who had cornered a suspect believed to be linked to the murder and were subjecting him to mob justice.
The officers attempted to intervene and rescue the suspect, but the crowd reportedly overpowered them and began pelting the police team with stones.
The officers fired several shots into the air in an attempt to disperse the crowd and secure the suspect, but the warning shots failed to deter the mob.
The escalating confrontation forced the team to scramble for safety and make a tactical withdrawal.
During the incident, the OCS lost a magazine belonging to a Jericho pistol, which was loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition.
The OCS also sustained injuries to both hands and his legs after being struck by stones. He was treated and later discharged in fair condition.
A police officer was also hit by a stone on his left eye. His condition was reported as fair.
The police report said the situation in the area remained tense following the confrontation.
The circumstances surrounding the murder that triggered the mob action, as well as the identity and whereabouts of the suspect, were not immediately provided in the report.
Police are expected to investigate both the murder and the confrontation that resulted in injuries to officers and the loss of a loaded firearm magazine.
And a police officer escorting a train carrying petroleum products was injured after an unknown person threw a stone at the locomotive as it approached Maili Saba in Nairobi.
The incident occurred on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The police officer was escorting a petroleum oil consignment from Nairobi Railways Station to Thika aboard a train consisting of an engine and 11 locomotives.
After reaching Thika, the train began its return journey to Nairobi.
Police said that when the train reached Maili Saba, near Mwiki Railway Station, an unknown person threw a stone at the left side of the engine.
The stone struck the officer on the left side of his head, causing injuries. It also damaged the left side of the locomotive’s windscreen.
The train crew managed to proceed to the station, where the injured officer was rushed to Nairobi West Hospital for medical attention.
Police have launched investigations to establish the identity of the person who threw the stone and the circumstances surrounding the attack on the train.
