Motorcycle used to ferry gunman in murder of lawyer Kyalo Mbobu recovered
The investigation into the murder of lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu yielded another breakthrough, with detectives recovering the motorcycle allegedly used to ferry the gunman to and from the scene of the fatal shooting.
The recovery comes in the wake of the arrest of three suspects, including Nicholas Lemiso Naula, a boda boda rider suspected of transporting the gunman on the day of the attack.
During interrogation, Naula told detectives that he was riding motorcycle registration number KMGL 516L at the time of the September 9, 2025 shooting.
Detectives immediately embarked on a painstaking trail to establish the motorcycle’s movements and trace its current whereabouts.
The trail led investigators through a succession of owners before the motorcycle was finally located and recovered. It was subsequently escorted to the Homicide Offices for further examination.
When presented with the motorcycle, Naula positively identified it as the one he had used to ferry the suspected gunman during the fatal attack.
The recovery adds another crucial piece to the growing body of evidence being assembled by detectives, following the arrests of the suspected gunman and two boda boda riders, as well as the recovery of motorcycles allegedly used to transport the gunman and trail the victim.
With every new piece of evidence, detectives are steadily reconstructing the chain of events surrounding Mbobu’s murder.
The focus remains on establishing the full circumstances of the killing, identifying every person involved and bringing those suspected of responsibility to justice, police said.
The Chief Magistrate’s Court at Milimani Friday granted the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) 15 days to continue detaining four suspects linked to the murder of Nairobi lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu, pending investigations.
Chief Magistrate Gethi Kibiru ordered the four suspects Julias Cheruiyot, Nicholas Naula Lemiso, Noah Kipkurui Langat and Kennedy Kipkemei will be held at Gigiri, Parklands, Kibra and Muthangari police stations respectively.
Mbobu, a city lawyer and partner at Kyalo and Associates in Nairobi’s Central Business District, was gunned down on the evening of September 9, 2025, while driving his white Toyota Land Cruiser near Brookhouse International School in Lang’ata.
Investigators said he was ambushed by armed assailants riding on a motorcycle, who opened fire before fleeing the scene.
Police officers who processed the scene recovered bullet fragments and other ballistic exhibits, while a subsequent search of the lawyer’s vehicle yielded a spent cartridge, bullet heads and additional fragments that were submitted to the government ballistic laboratory for forensic examination.
An autopsy conducted by Chief Government Pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor concluded that Mbobu died from multiple gunshot injuries after sustaining eight bullet wounds to the upper body and neck.
