MP Kamket Kassait To Table Bill To Reintroduce Prime Minister’s Post

Tiaty Member of parliament, Kamket Kassait has drafted a bill that is set two introduce a prime ministers position where the prime miner will be the head of government and will have two deputies.
The bill also seeks to shorten the presidential term to be a single seven year term with the president only exercising ceremonial powers and also remove the position of the deputy president.

The bill if passed will also see the president elected by parliament as opposed to the current system that a president is elected by a popular vote.
The Kamket Kassait also suggests that senators be voted in by MCAs. The bill also seeks to bar presidential candidates from holding leadership positions in political parties.
The Bill proposes the reintroduction of the leader of the Opposition and that the cabinet secretaries should also originate from Parliament.
The MP is expected to on Wednesday appear before the Budget and Appropriations Committee to look into the implications of the bill.
