An advertising company associated with Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja which also owes the county close to Ksh10 million in rates has been blacklisted and its billboards removed from major roads.
According to sources within the county, Seven Star Media Limited which is owned by James Omondi Ojwang, Sportpesa CEO Ronald Kamwiko Karauri and Nairobi Senator Johnson Arthur Kubasu Sakaja lied that it installed only a total of just over 400 billboards along major roads in Nairobi but a count discovered that they had over 900 billboards.
The county then demanded that the company which advertises for Sportpesa and others as it is also owned by the sports betting company CEO Ronald Karauri make additional payment, a demand which was not effectively responded to.
This prompted the county leadership to remove all Seven Star Media Limited billboards from the roads, something which annoyed Senator Sakaja and prompted him to push for the summon of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to the Senate to answer to queries touching on other issues.
The senator never recused himself nor declared his interest when transacting business during Senate’s Public Accounts Committee hearing which the governor has attended twice.
Being the county senator who is tasked with keeping the managers in check, it’s unclear if Senator Sakaja is not having a conflict of interests when he is still one key business associate of the county in the arrangement.
Sources within the county have revealed that the billboards earned Senator Sakaja upwards of Ksh200 million, money which he used to buy properties in Karen and other areas.
