Blow To Nakumatt As Arusha Outlet Closed Over Rent Arrears

Tanganyika Farmers Association (TFA) on Tuesday shut down Nakumatt Arusha branch that opened its doors in August, 2014.

The retailer is said to have not paid rent summing up to TSh320 million.

The retailer has been been going through tough financial times, having closed over 5 branches across Kenya.

Gross mismanagement, poor strategic decisions, tax issues and massive internal losses perpetrated by some wayward employees and suppliers are the main reasons behind the slow death of giant supermarket chain Nakumatt, reported the Nation in June.

The retailer has since been faced with multiple employee strikes, ending up in the corridors of justice.

The most recent shut downs were its Busia, Bungoma outlets due to arrears in rent.

Nakumatt is said to owe suppliers, rent among others a total of over Sh15 Billion.
