Raila Odinga, NASA presidential flag bearer, on Tuesday announced that the Opposition has been enjoined in the Court of Appeal case in which the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is seeking to reverse a High Court ruling on the tallying of presidential polls.
IEBC is seeking to reverse the High Court ruling that presidential election results announced at the polling station and constituency levels will be final.
NASA has vowed to sit out of the August 8 General Election if the IEBC succeeds in its bid to overturn the ruling.
Raila, on May 14 accused Jubilee Party of influencing the electoral body’s move with an aim of rigging the elections.
Speaking at his Capitol Hill office in Nairobi, Raila termed IEBC’s move as retrogressive.
He argued that the poll body’s bid to reverse the voter tally ruling would cancel out the strides that the country has made democratically, saying that the Opposition will not allow that to happen.
“How can IEBC seek to alter results from grassroots level yet they – the electoral body chair and commissioners – are situated in Nairobi? Which changes will they make yet they don’t know how people voted at county level?” questioned Raila questioned.
Jubilee Party, led by Senate majority leader, Kithure Kindiki, said that the threats by NASA to boycott the August 8 polls could end up triggering electoral violence.
