Born on April 29, 2000, Rhyne Howard is a professional basketball player for the Atlanta Dream. She played college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats. In 2022, the Dream drafted her first overall in the WNBA draft.

Her parents, Lajuana and Charles Howard, raised her in Toledo, where she attended Morrison R. Waite High School, but the spotlight has largely remained on Natasha rather than her siblings.

College career

Howard’s basketball journey took a significant leap forward when she enrolled at Florida State University, playing for the Seminoles from 2010 to 2014 under head coach Sue Semrau.

At Florida State, Howard showcased her skills as a forward, averaging 14.0 points and 8.1 rebounds per game across 129 games, with an impressive 51.6% field goal percentage.

Her freshman year (2010-11) saw her earn ACC All-Freshman Team honors, averaging 10.6 points and 6.6 rebounds while starting all 32 games.

WNBA career

Howard’s professional career began when the Indiana Fever selected her fifth overall in the 2014 WNBA Draft.

Her rookie season showed promise, averaging 7.0 points and 3.1 rebounds, though her second year saw a dip to 4.2 points per game.

Traded to the Minnesota Lynx in 2016, she contributed off the bench to their 2017 championship win.

Her career trajectory soared after a 2018 trade to the Seattle Storm, where she became a starter, averaging career-highs in scoring (13.2 points), rebounds (6.4), and blocks (1.9) en route to the 2018 title and the Most Improved Player award.
