NIC Bank Causes Customer To Be Listed With CRB, Fails To Act

A former customer with NIC bank, Jacqueline Wanjiku, has revealed how the bank has frustrated her, and later landed her into trouble with Credit Reference Bureaus (CRB).

Despite having been cleared with the CRB three years ago, Wanjiku received a call recently informing her that she had been listed with the CRB for accumulated charges of a bank account she once held with NIC bank, Buruburu branch.

However, Wanjiku says that she had officially closed the said account in November last year in the presence of the branch manager.

“(I was) called again that I have been listed again (with CRB) because of accumulated bank charges of a bank account that I held with NIC-Bank. Now this has gotten me so pissed off because last year November I personally visited this NIC Bank at their Buruburu branch. I officially closed my account (filled a closure form) at the Buruburu branch. I left a few shillings in it,” says Wanjiku.

The branch manager tried to persuade her to change the type of account she held to one with lesser charges, but she had decided to close it due to some mishap in the services offered by the bank.

A follow-up on why the bank had not closed the account a year later was responded through excuses that they “were following up the matter”.

As if not aware, the bank went ahead to ask when the closure instructions were issued, as if there were no bank records.

Below is a screenshot of the conversation between Wanjiku and NIC Bank.

Despite contacting them and posting the conversation online, the bank is yet to sort out the issue and clean their mess.

Wanjiku is pushing to have the bank write to the Central Bank of Kenya and the CRB where she is listed to clear her.
