NPR Officer Arrested, AK-47 Seized in Igembe South Robbery Investigation

Detectives from Igembe South, Igembe North, and Mutuati sub-counties have arrested a National Police Reserve (NPR) officer and recovered an AK-47 rifle linked to a series of robberies in the Kirindine area of Igembe South.

The suspect is believed to be part of a larger gang involved in a violent robbery at Kirindini Shopping Centre on December 19, 2025.

In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said that following crucial leads, officers tracked the suspect to the villages of Kina Meru, Kiutine, and Kina-Duba, where he was apprehended.

During questioning, the officer revealed the location of a buried AK-47 rifle, which was reportedly used in the robbery. Detectives recovered the rifle along with a magazine containing two rounds of 7.62 x 39 mm ammunition. Additionally, the official government-issued G3 rifle assigned to the officer, along with one magazine, was confiscated.

“He is currently in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment. Meanwhile, the operation is ongoing to trail and apprehend his accomplices who remain at large,” the DCI said.

The DCI added that operations have been intensified nationwide during the festive season. “As Kenyans celebrate the festive season, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations has intensified operations countrywide and will act swiftly and decisively against criminals to safeguard lives, property, and public peace,” the statement read.
