NPS denies reports of rape, deaths during Ol Kalou by-election, orders probe Into suspicious individuals

The National Police Service (NPS) Friday dismissed claims circulating on social media alleging incidents of rape and deaths during the recently concluded Ol Kalou Constituency by-election, saying no such cases were reported before, during or after the voting process.
In a statement, Central Region Regional Police Commander Geoffrey Maiyek said the by-election was conducted peacefully, thanking residents of Ol Kalou for exercising their democratic rights in a free, fair and orderly environment.
Maiyek also commended police officers deployed to secure the exercise, praising them for carrying out their duties professionally, with dignity and dedication.
He further acknowledged the leadership of Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, saying his strategic guidance ensured the by-election received adequate security coverage throughout the electoral process.
The police, however, confirmed that the Inspector General had been informed about a group of individuals seen moving around Ol Kalou under unclear circumstances during the election period.
“The Inspector General has directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to conduct a full investigation to establish who the individuals were and what their motive was, with a view to taking appropriate action,” the statement said.
Addressing allegations widely shared on social media, Maiyek maintained that no reports of rape had been received by the police at any stage of the by-election.
He warned that spreading false information could cause unnecessary public panic and undermine confidence in the National Police Service, whose mandate is to protect life and property, provide security and enforce the law.
The police urged members of the public to report any criminal incidents through the appropriate channels to enable investigations and lawful action.
“The National Police Service remains committed to upholding the rule of law while ensuring the safety and security of all Kenyans,” Maiyek said.
DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua claimed some women were raped in the polls.
