    kanini fingers duale

On Tuesday during the 9 PM bulletin on NTV, a headline highlighting the bribery of MPs to shoot down the sugar report caught many by surprise.

The headline “Kanini Fingers Duale” left many in laughter.

Many might have misunderstood the context in which the “finger” was used but according to the Cambridge English Dictionary, when the word finger is used as a verb, then it means telling on someone or informing on someone to the authorities.

    Kenyans on Twitter said:

Kieni MP Kanini Kega has accused the majority leader in the National Assembly of being behind the Sh10,000 and Sh30,000 bribes given to legislators on Thursday to shoot down the sugar report.

The Kieni legislator also blamed Speaker Justin Muturi and minority leader John Mbadi for the defeated report.

“I remember trying to indulge the Speaker to rein in the members led by the Majority leader who were consulting in high tones. I think I was wrong because they had already made up their minds,” said the MP.

According to Kiambu Woman Representative Gathoni wa Muchomba, legislators were bribed in Parliament’s toilets.

“They were telling us that money is not our mother’s [sic] and that we were being too arrogant. They went to the toilets and corridors to dish out money,” Wa Muchomba said in Thika.

Some MPs now want the report that cost Kenyans millions of shillings be brought back due to public demand.

“We believe all is not lost and as a House we can still revisit the joint committee report and suggest amendments to it,” said Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa.

Barasa has pointed the finger at Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi, who he says was trying to protect East African Community CS Adan Mohammed.

CS Mohammed would have been held accountable for failure to ensure compliance with standards in the importation of the allegedly contaminated sugar alongside Treasury CS Henry Rotich and former Agriculture CS Willy Bett.
