Residents of Nyandarua County will now access land services closer to home following the official opening of the county’s first-ever Lands Office in Ol Kalou.
The office was inaugurated on Friday by lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome alongside Principal Secretary Generali Nixon Korir, in what the government described as a major milestone in decentralising land services.
Tourism CS Rebecca Miano was present.
For more than 60 years, residents of Nyandarua have been travelling to Nyahururu and other neighbouring lands offices to access services, including the processing and collection of title deeds.
The new office is expected to improve efficiency, reduce travel costs and bring critical land administration services closer to residents.
During the event, the government issued 27,000 title deeds to beneficiaries from colonial villages, a move aimed at securing land ownership, promoting investment and supporting economic development.
The Ministry also announced that 296,000 land records have already been transferred from Nyahururu to the new Ol Kalou office out of more than 400,000 records earmarked for migration, a step expected to enhance service delivery in the county.
The launch was attended by Rebecca Miano, Moses Kiarie Badilisha, Faith Wairimu Gitau, Joseph Mbugua, Moses Kuria and UDA Party’s Ol Kalou Constituency by-election candidate Samuel Muchina Nyagah, among other leaders.
Speakers urged locals to stick in government for development.
The government said the establishment of the office is part of President William Ruto’s agenda to decentralise government services, strengthen land ownership rights and advance socio-economic development under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
