Nyeri politicians have formed a ‘Whatsapp’ group going by the name ‘Gideon Moi for President.’
The group is made up of 256 members, the Star reports, and was formed on Sunday.
”We are very serious on this. More is coming. We must have a Plan B because the election of Ruto will not be automatic. We are against being forced into a 2022 marriage,” one of the members said.
The move is set to upset Deputy President William Ruto who is poised to take over from his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.
Some politicians from the vote rich Central Kenya region have noted that backing the DP will not be automatic while others feel that the region owes him after he backed Kenyatta’s bid in 2013 and 2017.
The 256 members want the region to have an alternative candidate come 2022.
Moi and Ruto have never seen eye to eye most especially the latter has been referred to as the Rift Valley kingmaker.
But the most recent friction between the two was when the Baringo Senator was said to have handed the President a list of names that he would like named Cabinet Secretaries.
The Nation reported that the KANU chairman wanted the head of state to set aside a total of six slots in the executive, two in the Cabinet and four for principal secretaries in return for Kanu’s support for his re-election in the August 8 and October 26 presidential elections.
What could have upset the DP even the more is the fact that he was locked out of the first round of appointing the CSs.

He was missing when Kenyatta retained 6 CSs, and appointed 3.
He rubbished the claims saying that the President was free to do whatever he deems right.
However, a Nyeri resident pointed out that the Whatsapp group members could only be using Moi for his money.
”So they think Gideon Moi is a cash crop or a cash-cow they can be milking for four years?” the resident posed.
