Nyeri teachers will on Friday take to the streets should Deputy governor, Mutahi Kahiga not take oath of office before noon.

The teachers, led by area KNUT chair, Patrick Karinga felt like Mutahi’s swearing in was taking too long a time.

The Deputy Governor was set to take oath of office on Thursday but was postponed indefinitely following Dr Wahome Gakuru’s death on Tuesday.

Gakuru lost his life at the Thika Level 5 hospital after his care hit what has been said to have been a ‘killer guardrail.’

According to executive secretary Zachary Mathenge, the delay in swearing in Kahiga has left a gap in the county and is surprising.

“Does it mean Kahiga is not equally qualified? He is very much qualified and almost finishing his masters. Let them know that we have the numbers to protest if Kahiga, who is a former teacher, is not sworn in. The constitution must be followed to the letter,” he complained.

The deputy Governor, according to Information CEC Muthui Kariuki, the soon to be governor wants Gakuru laid to rest before taking over the county government.

Word is that he, Kahiga will maintain the CEC’s appointed by the late county boss but will be expected to take fresh oaths of office.

Gakuru, an economist, was going to ‘awaken the sleeping giant’ that is Nyeri county hence residents skeptical about a former teacher taking over the reigns.
