ODM dismisses fake news about Oburu Oginga’s health, appeals for privacy
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has dismissed reports circulating about the health of party leader Senator Oburu Oginga, terming them fake and urging Kenyans to allow him time to recover.
In a public communication issued on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale said the senator’s family was distressed by the continued spread of false information about his health.
Etale said Oburu was equally disturbed by the reports as he continues to rest and recuperate following several weeks of treatment both locally and abroad.
The party urged Kenyans to exercise responsibility when sharing information, noting that freedom of expression should be accompanied by respect for other people’s privacy and well-being.
“Daktari Oburu is equally disturbed by the FAKE news,” Etale said.
He appealed to those circulating the reports to give the ODM leader adequate time to recover, regain his strength and return to active public life.
“As he takes time to rest and recuperates after several weeks of treatment both abroad and locally, he wishes that the section of Kenyans who are happily spreading the news will give him time to recover fully, regain his health and energy and then return to active life soon,” the statement read.
The party also cautioned against spreading unverified information, warning that such reports could cause unnecessary distress to individuals and their families.
“Let us refrain from spreading false information aimed at causing agony and pain to others,” Etale said.
The statement was signed by Etale in his capacity as ODM director of communications.
