The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Parliamentary Group (PG) endorsed the installation of Dr. Oburu Oginga as the new Party Leader and approved a series of far-reaching resolutions, including structured negotiations with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The meeting, chaired by Party Leader Oburu Oginga, reviewed recent party activities and outlined upcoming legislative and political programs both inside and outside Parliament.

This was the first Parliamentary Group meeting since the late former Party Leader Raila Odinga addressed members at the Argyle Hotel on September 22, 2025.

After what members described as frank deliberations, the PG approved and upheld decisions previously taken by the party’s Central Committee and National Executive Committee (NEC).

Among the key resolutions the G formally endorsed the emergency NEC decision installing Dr. Oburu Oginga as Party Leader.

Members ratified the suspension of Edwin Sifuna as Secretary General and backed the Central Committee’s endorsement of the ongoing working arrangement between ODM and United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

They also supported structured negotiations with UDA aimed at forming a coalition ahead of the 2027 elections and approved efforts to pursue compensation for victims of past election-related human rights abuses and committed to working with partners to fast-track alternative mechanisms for resolution.

Members endorsed the party’s decision to withdraw from the Azimio la Umoja–One Kenya Coalition Party.
The NEC’s decision to convene a Special National Delegates Convention on March 27, 2027, was also approved.

ODM MPs agreed to hold a joint Parliamentary Group meeting with UDA next Tuesday to receive a briefing on the implementation status of a ten-point agenda and mandated the Party Leader to initiate internal processes, including determining modalities and representation for the upcoming negotiations with UDA.

The resolutions were communicated by National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed and Senate Minority Leader Sen. Stewart Madzayo.

The decisions signal a significant political realignment that could reshape the opposition landscape and influence coalition dynamics heading into the 2027 General Election.
