One Arrested as Police Seize Sh1.4 Million Worth of Suspected Cannabis in Kakamega

Police officers in Kakamega County have arrested one person and recovered narcotic drugs valued at about Sh1.4 million following an operation along the Kisumu–Kakamega Road.

In a statement on Monday, police said the drugs were seized during an intelligence-led operation in which officers stopped and searched a public service vehicle.

During the search, officers recovered a large consignment of dry green plant material suspected to be Cannabis sativa. The drugs were hidden in several bags and a sack and packed into multiple bales.

The recovered narcotics weighed approximately 48 kilograms and have an estimated street value of Sh1.4 million.

One suspect was arrested at the scene and taken to a police station, where the drugs were secured as exhibits.

“The suspect remains in lawful custody pending processing and arraignment in court,” the police said.

The National Police Service said it remains committed to fighting drug trafficking and dismantling criminal networks involved in the illegal trade, noting that narcotics pose a serious threat to public health, safety and national security.
