At least one person was killed when a speeding bus rammed into a crowd of people in Ngara area, Nairobi.
Police said at least 30 people were injured in the accident. Most of them were teachers.
There are fears the number of the casualties may increase as the victims had multiple injuries.
Nairobi police confirmed one person died at the scene.
Witnesses said the driver of the bus lost its control before he rammed into the group.
One witness said he saw a body on the ground as rescue mission went on.
The injured were rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
The incident happened outside the Nairobi City Primary school where a group of teachers were meeting.
It is believed among the injured were the teachers.
According to eyewitness accounts, the teachers were queuing outside the school as voting continued inside when a Githurai-bound PSV minibus lost control and rammed into the crowd.
The incident happened at about 5 pm.
The accident comes amid ongoing campaign to address road crashes in the country.
More than 300 people were killed in accidents in the country in the past month alone.
The accidents also left dozens with serious injuries. Officials say reckless overtaking, speeding, and drunk driving remain among the leading causes of road accidents across the country, continuing to claim lives despite sustained public safety campaigns by National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
Mechanical failures from poorly maintained vehicles, including worn tyres and faulty brakes, have also been identified as significant contributors to the growing number of crashes. In addition to driver negligence, poor road conditions such as potholes, confusing signage, and inadequate lighting make travel increasingly hazardous.
