Telecommunications provider Telkom Kenya is waking up from the slumber and is out to expand its distribution network across the country. The programme was just launched this morning, with the opening of an Orange Shop at the Sarit Centre in Westlands.

Managing Director Mikhael Ghossein said the programme is aimed at making Orange services and products easily accessible to Kenyans.

He said, “Our aim is to ensure that existing and potential subscribers can access the unrivalled services that Orange offers, around the country at a location convenient to them, and in an environment that is unswerving with their evolving lifestyles”.

Ghossein said the Orange Shop at the Sarit Centre is the 23rd customer centre, with 14 another satellite shops also offering high quality of service to customers.

“We are planning to open similar centres at the T-Mall Plaza at the junction of Mbagathi Way and Langata road towards the end of the year, and at the Westgate mall here in Westlands, as well as other strategic locations in all towns across the country in a deliberate move to enhance our distribution network”, Ghossein added.

The Orange shop on the ground floor of Sarit Centre will be manned by trained personnel and will offer a wide range of services, including the payment of bills, sale of phones, internet modems and airtime, in addition to the registration of SIM cards.

The Chief Executive Officer said, “This shop has been opened at an opportune time, when the campaign to register SIM cards is going on. In this centre, your SIM card registration details will be recorded electronically into our database in a period not exceeding 10 minutes”.

Ghossein also says Orange is ready to launch its 3G services in the fourth quarter of the year, and is ready to launch the 4G services later in the year. He’s also asked the Communications Commission to consult with service providers when coming up with regulations for the issuance of the 4G licence.

Speaking at the launch, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Communications Dr. Bitange Ndemo commended Orange on the launch of its distribution network with the opening of the Customer Experience Centre at the Sarit Centre.

He said the government will continue creating an enabling environment that will support the growth of the mobile telephony business.

“As you are aware the government is currently reviewing the Fair Competition and Equality of Treatment Regulations introduced earlier in the year, aimed at providing a level playing ground for all operators in this market. “The rules are currently being reviewed, ahead of their implementation”, announced Dr. Ndemo.
