During an exclusive IT Transformation seminar event today, entitled “Cloud Transforms IT – BIG Data Transforms Business”, EMC shared insights on the importance of IT infrastructure transformation for organizations in Kenya. The EMC –led industry event took place this morning at the Serena Hotel, Nairobi with over 150 delegates participating.

Cloud computing transforms IT, delivering the maximum possible IT efficiency and making it possible to store, manage and analyse business and end-user information even as this continues to grow at a rate faster than Moore’s Law*. As a result, and in order to meet the service-level demands required by businesses today, IT organizations are recognizing the need to transform their operations in order to address the cost, efficiency, scalability, and agility of their infrastructure. The seminar explored the massive opportunity of IT transformation, and the strategies that will help organizations implement the right IT transformation model to drive their businesses forward.

During the seminar, EMC’s executives showcased the company’s vision and transformation services, which combine innovative strategies with a pragmatic approach to transformation, aiming at maximizing the IT organization’s delivery effectiveness and cost efficiency.

Mr. Bassam Hemdan, Regional Manager for East & Southern Africa Region & Zain EMC, stated that: “With the explosive growth in data globally, it is estimated that approximately 80% of storage capacity shipped this year will be used for unstructured, file-based data. It is therefore important that businesses seeking to transform how information is used and disseminated focus on transforming their IT infrastructure to be as simple, efficient and agile as possible, so that it is enabled to adapt to peaks and troughs in demand while saving costs and protecting valuable information assets”.

Some of the topics covered during the seminar included: technology innovation, data backup and recovery, archiving strategies, virtualization, cloud computing, storage and IT management, security and compliance, as well as the impact IT transformation will have on organizations’ business models.

Mr. Fady Richmany, Regional Director for Emerging Africa at EMC, added further: “At EMC we’re proud to showcase our vision and our latest technologies aimed at enabling organizations to transform not only their IT, but their business and their teams’ individual skills. We believe that Kenyan enterprises today are eager to optimize their IT systems to enable them to advance their business and boost their competitive advantage, and we are keen to work with them on their transformation journey”.
