The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) will inspect the head offices and county offices of all fully registered political parties from October 5 to 9, 2026, to assess their compliance with statutory requirements.
In a notice to the secretaries-general of all fully registered political parties dated September 14, Registrar of Political Parties and Chief Executive Officer John Cox Lorionokou said the exercise would establish whether parties were maintaining registered head offices and branch offices in more than half of Kenya’s counties.
The inspection will also assess whether political parties maintain accurate and authentic statutory records at their respective offices, as required by the Political Parties Act, Cap. 7D.
The ORPP said the exercise is being undertaken pursuant to its mandate under Section 34 of the Political Parties Act to register, regulate, monitor and investigate political parties and ensure compliance with the law.
Section 7(2)(f)(ii) of the Act requires fully registered political parties to maintain a registered head office and branch offices in more than half of the counties, while Section 17(1) requires parties to maintain accurate and authentic statutory records at their offices.
To facilitate the inspection, the ORPP has directed political parties to submit updated lists of the current locations of their designated head offices and branch offices, together with the names and contact details of the respective contact persons.
The information must be submitted to the Office by September 25, 2026.
The Registrar also said an Office Inspection Checklist had been enclosed to guide parties on the requirements and assist them in preparing for the exercise.
