Oyuu re-elected unopposed as KNUT Secretary General

The Kenya National Union of Teachers Secretary General Collins Oyuu and his deputy Hesbon Otieno were among ten officials elected unopposed in the union’s polls held on Friday.

The elections, held at Tom Mboya Labour College, brought together delegates from across the country.

Also elected unopposed were National Chairman Patrick Karinga, First Vice National Chairman Malel Langat, and Second Vice National Chairman Aggrey Namisi.

Other positions filled without contest include National Treasurer James Ndiku, Deputy National Treasurer Kennedy Nyamwanda, and Assistant National Treasurer Kullow Mohammed.

In the women’s leadership category, Mercy Kambati and Mercy Ndungu also secured their positions unopposed.

Out of the eleven available national posts, only the Assistant Secretary General position remained competitive, drawing interest as voting continued.

Oyuu credited the outcome to the union’s track record, saying their work for teachers had earned the trust of members.

He pledged to build on previous gains to further improve teachers’ welfare and terms of service.
“Kumi bila break. It is clear we have delivered for teachers, and we are committed to raising the bar even higher so they can benefit more through the union,” Oyuu stated.

He also congratulated fellow officials elected alongside him, describing the unopposed outcome as a sign of confidence in their leadership.

“I want to congratulate my colleagues, we have been elected with this, which shows the faith members have in us,” he added.

The elections had been planned earlier on as per the laws governing the union
