Patrick James Cummins is an Australian international cricketer born on 8 May 1993 in Westmead, New South Wales.
A right-arm fast bowler and a useful lower-order batter, Cummins is widely regarded as one of the finest fast bowlers of his generation and currently serves as the captain of the Australian Test and ODI teams.
Standing at approximately 192 centimetres, he is known for his relentless pace, accuracy, and ability to produce match-winning spells in all conditions.
Beyond his bowling, Cummins is admired for his leadership, humility, and calm demeanour under pressure.
Siblings
Cummins grew up in a close-knit family in Sydney’s western suburbs.
He is the son of Peter Cummins and Maria Cummins, and he has four siblings: two brothers named Tim Cummins and Matt Cummins, and two sisters named Laura Cummins and Katie Cummins.
Pat is the second of the five children.
Career
Cummins burst onto the international scene as a teenager in remarkable fashion.
He made his Test debut on 17 November 2011 against South Africa at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg at just 18 years of age.
In that match, he produced a sensational performance, taking six wickets in the second innings and claiming the player of the match award, becoming the youngest Australian since Ian Craig to receive that honour on Test debut.
However, the fairytale start was followed by years of frustration.
A series of stress fractures in his back kept him out of Test cricket for more than five years, and many feared his career might never recover.

Cummins spent years rebuilding his body and his action, gradually returning to the international fold through limited-overs cricket.
He made his ODI debut in 2012 and his T20 International debut in 2011, but it was his return to the Test arena in 2017 that marked the true beginning of his rise.
Once back in the Test side, Cummins quickly established himself as Australia’s spearhead.
He became the top-ranked Test bowler in the world and formed a fearsome pace attack alongside Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and later Scott Boland.
His consistency across all conditions made him invaluable, and he delivered match-winning performances in Australia, England, South Africa, and the subcontinent.
In November 2021, Cummins was appointed captain of the Australian Test team, succeeding Tim Paine. His captaincy tenure began in historic fashion as Australia won the 2021-22 Ashes series convincingly.
He later led Australia to victory in the 2023 ICC World Test Championship final against India and then to the 2023 ODI World Cup title, also defeating India in the final.
Under his leadership, Australia retained the Ashes in England in 2023 and continued to dominate world cricket.
He has also been a key performer in the Indian Premier League, most notably with the Kolkata Knight Riders and later the Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he produced exceptional seasons with both ball and bat.
Accolades
Cummins won the Allan Border Medal, Australia’s most prestigious individual cricket award, in 2019, and he has been named the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year on multiple occasions.
He has also been the recipient of the ICC Men’s Player of the Year award.
Cummins holds the record for being the most expensive overseas player ever signed in the Indian Premier League when Kolkata Knight Riders purchased him for a staggering sum ahead of the 2020 season.
He has claimed numerous five-wicket hauls in Test cricket and ranks among Australia’s leading fast bowlers in terms of wickets taken.
As captain, he has achieved the rare distinction of winning both the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup, cementing his legacy as one of Australia’s most successful leaders.
He was also part of the Australian team that won the 2015 ODI World Cup and the 2021 T20 World Cup, making him one of the few players to have won multiple ICC global titles.
