A 61-year-old man died after falling from the third floor of a hospital building in Gatundu, Kiambu County.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at Gatundu Level V Hospital, where the patient, identified as Vincent Mburu, had been admitted since March 30.

According to police, the man was receiving treatment at the hospital’s emergency wing after being diagnosed with alcohol withdrawal syndrome.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the patient fell from the third-floor landing onto a concrete pavement at around 1:15 a.m., dying on the spot due to injuries believed to include a broken neck.

Police officers who visited the scene established that the deceased may have been attempting to leave the facility when the incident occurred.

The circumstances surrounding the incident were not disclosed.

The body was moved to the hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination.

Authorities say investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.

Elsewhere, police in Mathira East Sub-county, Nyeri County, launched investigations into a murder incident after a 37-year-old man was found dead in his house under suspicious circumstances.

The deceased, identified as Bonface Nderitu Wanjiru, was discovered on Saturday morning at his home in Gaturiri village, Gaturiri sub-location.

The body was found by his relative who became concerned after noticing the deceased’s single-roomed wooden house was wide open at around 8:30 a.m.
Upon checking inside, he found Bonface lying lifeless.

Police officers from Karatina and Kiamabara police stations, alongside detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mathira East and crime scene investigators from Nyeri, visited the scene.

Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased was lying face down and had sustained a deep cut on the forehead, believed to have been inflicted using a sharp object. Blood stains were also observed on the bed, suggesting he may have been attacked inside the house.

Authorities noted that the deceased lived alone and was known to be a habitual drinker.

The scene was processed and documented by forensic officers before the body was moved to Karatina Level Four Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and to identify those responsible.
