Paul Edward Goldschmidt, nicknamed “Goldy,” is an American professional baseball first baseman who currently plays for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball (MLB).
Born on September 10, 1987, in Wilmington, Delaware, he stands 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs around 225 pounds.
Known for his powerful hitting, exceptional defensive skills at first base, and surprising baserunning speed for his position, Goldschmidt has established himself as one of the most consistent and accomplished players in the game over more than a decade and a half.
He is respected not only for his on-field performance but also for his character, work ethic, and family values.
Siblings
Paul is the oldest of three boys born to parents David and Kim Goldschmidt.
He has two younger brothers, Adam Goldschmidt and Robbie Goldschmidt.
The family moved from Wilmington, Delaware, to Texas, first to the Dallas area and later to the Houston suburb of The Woodlands, due to the family’s flooring business.
David Goldschmidt has a Jewish heritage, with his own parents escaping Nazi Germany in 1938, while Kim is Catholic.
All three brothers were raised in the Catholic faith and attended church growing up, though the family respected both religious traditions.
Career
Goldschmidt grew up in The Woodlands, Texas, where he excelled in baseball at The Woodlands High School, helping the team win a state championship in 2006.
He was drafted late by the Los Angeles Dodgers that year but chose instead to attend Texas State University, where he continued to develop as a player.

The Arizona Diamondbacks selected him in the eighth round of the 2009 MLB Draft.
After strong performances in the minor leagues, including being named USA Today Minor League Player of the Year in 2011, he made his MLB debut with the Diamondbacks on August 1, 2011.
Goldschmidt quickly emerged as a star in Arizona, becoming a cornerstone of the franchise.
He spent eight seasons with the Diamondbacks (2011–2018), earning multiple All-Star selections and leading the National League in key offensive categories during breakout years.
In 2018, he was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals, where he played from 2019 through 2024 and continued his elite production.
Ahead of the 2025 season, he signed with the New York Yankees, bringing his veteran presence and skill set to a new team in pursuit of a championship.
Throughout his career, Goldschmidt has been noted for his durability, plate discipline, power, and Gold Glove-caliber defense.
He has also represented the United States in international competition, such as the World Baseball Classic.

Goldschmidt has been selected to seven All-Star Games (2013–2018 and 2022).
In 2022, he captured the National League Most Valuable Player Award while playing for the Cardinals, also earning All-MLB First Team honors that year.
He has won the Hank Aaron Award twice (2013 and 2022) as the National League’s top offensive performer and led the NL in home runs (36) and RBIs (125) in 2013.
Defensively, Goldschmidt has secured four Gold Glove Awards (2013, 2015, 2017, and 2021) for his outstanding work at first base.
Offensively, he has earned five Silver Slugger Awards (2013, 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022), the most by any first baseman in MLB history.
Over his career through 2025, he has compiled a batting average around .288, more than 370 home runs, over 1,200 RBIs, and strong on-base and slugging percentages that underscore his status as a premier hitter.
