Rogue police in Baringo were caught on camera as they transported stranded commuters from Baringo to Nakuru in a Land Cruiser at double the price.

Agitated matatu operators ratted out the police to Standard journalists who trailed the police vehicle and established that there were ten passengers on board.

One of the passengers confirmed that they had been ferried by the said police vehicle. She said that the police who were on the way to Nakuru offered to ‘assist’ the passengers at a fee. The passengers paid a total of Sh400 for the trip.

The regional police commander Francis Munyambu condemned the police from taking advantage of stranded commuters during this period.

“Police vehicles are meant for official duties and not for conducting transport business. We are investigating the matter and action will be taken against officers involved,” rebuked Munyambu.
