Police Destroy Over 3,000 Litres of Kangara in Nandi

Police officers in Nandi South Sub-County destroyed a total of 3,010 litres of Kangara during an operation against illegal brews on Friday, January 9, 2026.

The raid, which also recovered 60 litres of Chang’aa, targeted Kipsigak, Baibai, Chepsis, and Kipkurui villages, where brewing apparatus was found hidden in bushes, along rivers, and in forested areas.

“Suspected brewers fled the scene when they noticed the police presence. Investigations are proceeding at full speed to apprehend the suspects,” police said in a statement.

Inspector General of the National Police Service (IG-NPS), Douglas Kanja, has ordered stringent measures to tackle the production and distribution of harmful substances. On Friday, he met officers from Nandi and Uasin Gishu counties during a general security review, focusing on the fight against illicit brews and other dangerous drugs.

The renewed crackdown follows President William Ruto’s high-level multi-agency meeting at State House, Nairobi, on January 7, where measures were set in motion to eliminate harmful substances from the country.

The IG directed officers to strictly follow the multi-agency framework in all operations and stressed the importance of discipline, diligence, and thorough briefings and debriefings.

Kanja said Patriotism must guide all police operations, adding that officers must serve the country to the best of their ability and ensure these vices are eradicated.
