Police are holding a car belonging to former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero over what they say is tax evasion.
According to a local daily, the ex county boss illegally imported his Mercedes Benz 500E.
“It beats logic why a former governor can deliberately fail to pay tax, then go ahead and have a fake registration plate on his car,” a source privy to the details told the Standard.
The car allegedly has an illegal plate number as well and is being held at Parklands Police Station alongside another that belongs to his (Kidero) friend.
But those close to Kidero say that the car was in the car legally and the only mistake was that it was registered as a station wagon instead of a saloon car.
The former county boss was arrested on August 8 and charged with abuse of office, money laundering and bribery charges.
He was charged alongside seven others, including Lilian Wanjiru Ndegwa who served as County Secretary and Jimmy Mutuku Kiamba who controlled finances at the county.
