Police in Machakos County intervened in a land dispute after a body was allegedly dumped on private land for burial, prompting the owner to obtain court orders stopping the interment.
According to police, the incident was reported after a man, together with other relatives and squatters, placed the body of their relative, Francis Ngeru, on land belonging to a neighbour on August 4.
The landowner moved to the Kithimani Law Courts on August 5 and successfully sought interim orders stopping the burial on the disputed parcel of land.
The matter was heard with an inter partes hearing scheduled for August 20, 2026.
Following the court’s intervention, police officers visited the scene and removed the body.
The remains were transferred to Murang’a Level V Hospital Mortuary, where they will be preserved pending the court’s determination of the burial dispute.
Police said the action was taken to maintain public order and ensure compliance with the court process as the ownership and burial rights dispute is resolved.
Meanwhile, police have launched investigations into the brutal murder of a 69-year-old woman whose body was found in a bush in Matungulu Sub-County, Machakos County.
The deceased, identified as Anna Katumbi Mutiso, had reportedly left her home to collect firewood at Kwa Matinge Farm in Kyamisinzi Village but failed to return, prompting concern among her family.
According to police, her son began searching for his mother after she did not return home and contacted relatives in an effort to trace her, but the search was unsuccessful.
On the morning of August 5, at around 10 a.m., he discovered his mother’s lifeless body lying in a bush.
Preliminary findings indicate that the victim had sustained multiple deep cut wounds to the forehead, both hands and both legs, suggesting she was attacked with a sharp weapon.
The body was moved to Patjud Mortuary for preservation pending a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched investigations to establish the motive behind the killing and identify those responsible. No arrests had been reported by the time of the report.
