Police officer dies after machete attack in Siaya

A police officer died after being attacked by a suspect while on duty in Rarieda Sub-county, Siaya County.

The incident occurred on March 31, 2026, at Malele Village in Kagwa sub-location, when a team of officers from Aram Police Station visited the area following an earlier report. According to police, the officers were ambushed by a man identified as David Otieno Ndonye, who was armed with a machete.

During the confrontation, Police Constable Walter Siocha sustained severe head injuries after being cut by the suspect.

Reinforcements from Aram Police Station responded swiftly, managing to rescue the officers and secure the scene.

The injured officer was first rushed to Amoyo Health Care Facility before being referred to Bondo Sub-County Hospital for specialized treatment.

However, he later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the facility.

His body was moved to Lwak Mission Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination.

Police launched a manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing as efforts to apprehend him continue.

And a 60-year-old caretaker died after being stabbed by suspected assailants in Kipanga area, Nakuru West Sub-county.

According to police, the incident was reported on the night of March 31, 2026, at around 10:50pm.

Officers from Rhonda Police Station responded to reports of a stabbing and found that the victim, identified as Edwin Makani Mwanchi, had already been rushed to Nakuru Provincial General Hospital.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased worked as a caretaker at a residential property known as Mbatia Enterprises.

Authorities believe the attack may have been a revenge mission carried out by three young men who had previously lived at the premises before being evicted.

The suspects are alleged to have held a grudge against the caretaker and confronted him before stabbing him twice in the chest and stomach.

Mwanchi succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital.

His body has been moved to the Nakuru PGH mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination.

Police have launched investigations into the incident and are pursuing leads to identify and arrest the suspects.
