Police recover suspected fake vehicle number plates in Kariobangi South

A raid on a house in Kariobangi South, Nairobi, saw the recovery of assorted vehicle number plates.

This followed claims that stolen vehicles were ending up in the area.

The police said they recovered 34 pieces of complete registration number plates, 68 pieces of incomplete ones, 34 half pieces of registration number plates, three rolls of chassis number stickers, a roll of blue iron sheet, two rolls of white and yellow reflective sheets, and assorted registration frames.

Police said the owners of the compound escaped the scene. Efforts to trace him were ongoing, police said.

Detectives are investigating the claims stolen vehicles end up in the area for changes before they are driven out to other markets.

Meanwhile, Marakwet East Member of Parliament Bowen Kangogo claims he was Friday assaulted by a man as he attended a wedding in Ketut, Elgeyo Marakwet County. He told police the person who assaulted him was known to him.

He reported the matter to Chesoi police who said they are investigating the same. They advised him to file a P3 form.

It is not clear how and why the assault happened. The motive was not known.
