The National Police Service (NPS) has released a video showing the suspect of the Odeon blast along Latema Road, asking the public for assistance in identifying him.

“DCI Detectives investigating the Latema Road Explosion are appealing for the public’s help in identifying the person circled in the video posted below. Kindly report to DCI Headquarters or Call 0729999988,” tweeted NPS.

The video shows a man of Somali origin, carrying a box suspected to have been carrying the explosives.

Two weeks ago, bomb experts from the police department took away unattended metallic box left at Odeon along Tom Mboya street since the blast that happened on January 26.

The blast occurred shortly after 7pm outside Smothers Fast Food Restaurant on Tom Mboya Street.

Two people were injured and identified as a trolley pusher by the name Joseph Okinyi and a newspaper vendor.

Nairobi regional police commander Philip Ndolo said a man of Somali descent had procured the help of the trolley pusher to carry an unidentified package across the city.

The two walked together up to the junction before he pretended he had forgotten his identification card.

“As they were reaching the junction between Latema and Tom Mboya, the gentleman pretended to have forgotten his ID and therefore requested Joseph Okinyi to stop there so that he can dash back to get his ID,” Ndolo said.
