Police in Bungoma County reopened investigations into the death of a woman initially reported as a suicide after a postmortem examination ruled out suicide and pointed to murder.

The deceased, identified as Abigail Nafula alias Abby, was married to a military officer.

According to police, an autopsy conducted at Webuye Sub-County Hospital established that the cause of death was asphyxiation due to strangulation and a fractured cervical vertebra (atlas), injuries linked to trauma.

Investigators said the findings effectively ruled out suicide, prompting detectives to reclassify the case as murder.

No arrest had been made by Thursday but a team of detectives were pursuing various leads into the same.

The body was moved to Bethlehem Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem examination as investigations continue.
