Kanyenyaini Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) in Muranga Grace Nduta was Friday presented in court in the suspected stage-managed abduction of Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi case.
She was presented with three other suspects who had been arrested earlier on.
The plot is also believed to have involved an attempt by security officers to prevent his arrest.
The prosecution requested the court that the MCA be detained for 14 days as investigations continue.
They are also seeking to detain the other three suspects for 15 days.
However, the defence lawyers opposed the application, arguing that the suspects should be released on bail.
The lawyers said their continued freedom would not interfere with ongoing investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The court is expected to make a ruling on whether the suspects will be released or remain in custody Friday.
On Thursday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) released a statement claiming that Nduta spent the entire night of May 25, 2025 with Koimburi at a bar in Gatundu South when the lawmaker had claimed that he had been abducted.
The detectives had asked a Milimani court to allow them hold Juja Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Chairman Peter Kiratu Mbaru, David Macharia Gatana and Cirus Kieru Muhia.
The DCI claimed that MP Koimburi was kidnapped from Full Gospel Ebenezer Church in Mugutha by the three respondents, who are reportedly his close associates.
The DCI argues that investigations are still ongoing and releasing the suspects at this stage could jeopardize the process, especially since the MP is yet to record his official statement.
According to court papers, the allegations have since created panic, fear, and sharp political divisions across the country and in the concerned constituency, which is cosmopolitan in nature.
“This presents a threat to national peace and stability,” the police said.
They claimed Koimburi remains critically ill, according to close friends and family.
The outcome of his medical condition is uncertain, as doctors have yet to release their findings.
The court was also told that the matter is of grave national security concern.
Besides being a sitting Member of Parliament, Koimburi is affiliated with the newly formed Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), which is in opposition to the current government.
This political dynamic has reportedly fueled intense public reaction that could escalate into serious unrest.
The DCI emphasized that kidnapping is a serious offense under the Penal Code.
Preliminary investigations also suggest that after reportedly evading arrest on May 23, 2025, the MP later returned safely to his home in Mugutha.
This was allegedly confirmed by the first respondent, who visited him and was informed that the MP intended to seek legal redress to recover his impounded vehicle from the police.
