Police Seize Cannabis Sativa In Kisii And Kakamega Roadblock Dramas

There was drama along the Migori–Kisumu Highway after a driver ran over a police roadblock in an attempt to escape, only to be arrested and found with cannabis sativa.
According to police, officers from Gesonso Police Station in Kisii South Sub-County, acting on a tip-off from members of the public, mounted a roadblock and flagged down a suspicious dark grey Toyota Sienta, registration number KCB 752A.
Instead of stopping, the driver rammed over metal spikes in a bid to flee. A chase followed before the vehicle was disabled after all its tyres were punctured.
Police said the driver, 43-year-old John Njomo Ndung’u, attempted to escape on foot but was quickly arrested.
“A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of five and a half gunny bags of cannabis sativa, now secured as exhibits alongside the impounded vehicle,” read part of a police statement.
The suspect is being held in custody awaiting arraignment.
Meanwhile, in Kakamega, police officers intercepted another suspect transporting cannabis sativa on a motorcycle.
Police said officers from Matungu Police Station mounted a roadblock on August 7, 2025 following an alert from Koyonzo Police Station.
When flagged down, the rider defied orders, ran over the spike barrier, and his front tyre was punctured. He abandoned the motorcycle a few metres ahead and escaped on foot.
The officers recovered the motorcycle and 25 kilograms of cannabis sativa. The exhibits were impounded, and a manhunt for the suspect has been launched.
“The National Police Service commends the officers for their relentless and steadfast efforts in combating illicit brew and drugs,” the statement added.
