Police seize cannabis worth Sh169,500 in Busia, two suspects arrested

Police officers in Busia have arrested two suspects and seized 5.65 kilograms of cannabis sativa with an estimated street value of Sh169,500 following an intelligence-led operation.

In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) said the operation was conducted on Saturday, July 11, 2026, after officers received a tip-off from members of the public.

The suspects were intercepted at the Climax Bus booking office within the Busia stage area.

A search of their luggage led to the recovery of eight packages containing cannabis sativa, with the narcotics estimated to be worth Sh169,500 on the street.

The two suspects were arrested at the scene and escorted to Busia Police Station, where they are being processed ahead of their arraignment in court.

Police said the recovered cannabis has been secured as an exhibit as investigations continue.

The National Police Service commended members of the public for their continued cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking.
