Polish tourist drowns while swimming at Diani beach

A Polish tourist drowned when she ventured into the Indian Ocean for swimming expedition in Diani, Kwale County.

Police said Borucka Grazyna Janina was with fellow Polish tourists when she drowned on Friday November 14 evening.

They had ventured out at the Diamond Leisure Resort beach of the ocean for swimming sessions when a huge wave hit her, witnesses said.

She had arrived in Kenya on November 13, 2026 and was to check out on November 27.

Witnesses and police said she was overwhelmed by the waves and drowned. Her body was recovered from the water and taken to a local mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Police said they are investigating the incident.

Elsewhere in Kongowea, Nyali, Mombasa County, a body was found floating at the ocean after a suspected drowning.

The man had drowned near the Bahari Beach Club, police said.

The victim did not have identification documents. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an identification and autopsy.

In Oyugis, Homa Bay County, police said they are investigating another drowning incident.

The incident happened in West Kamagak area and involved one Victor Okoth, 30. He is said to have drowned in a borehole near his house.

The circumstances surrounding the drowning were not clear, police said adding they were investigating the same. The body was retrieved and moved to the mortuary pending other procedures.
