Power Blackout Experienced On Tuesday, Happened Last Year Same Date

The Tuesday evening power outage was due to a technical hitch emanating from Kenya Power’s transmission system, the company explained.

The blackout hit parts of Nairobi, Mount Kenya, Nyanza, Western, Rift Valley and Coast regions.

”A technical hitch emanating from our transmission system has led to the loss of electricity to parts of the country this evening,” Kenya Power’s statement read in part.

But what is interesting is that exactly a year ago, the country experienced a power outage only this time a technical fault had hit its Ndenderu Nairobi North Substation.

”We regret any inconvenience caused by the outage,” Kenya Power General Manager for Network Management Daniel Tare said.

The hitch, the company said, cut off electricity supply from the Olkaria geothermal fields.

In June 2017, a monkey caused a countrywide blackout after it  climbed onto the roof of the Gitaru power station and dropped onto a transformer, tripping it.
