
Riara School has for the first time since it was established 28 years ago produced a top KCPE candidate Olive Mwea who achieved 453 marks. She tied on the first position with Rawlings Odhiambo from Kakamega Hills school.
13 year old Olive told Citizen TV that she had expected to get 433 marks and could not believe that she was the top candidate until the headmaster confirmed.
“I did not believe it but the moment our headteacher confirmed it, I realized I was the top candidate. I thank my teachers, it is out of reading and God’s blessings that this happened I would love to join Kenya High, Kianda High or Brook House school,” Olive.
The performance this year was an improvement from last yea as 12,273 candidates got 400 marks and above, 228,414 got between 301 to 400 marks, 574,927 candidates scored between 201 to 300 marks.
Others who managed to score highly include Leonard Asanga from Mou Kabarak school who got 451 marks, Majau Phoebe Mwenda, from Josnah school in Ruai who scored 445 marks.
Kakamega county produced a top candidate for the second year running
Public schools have however not managed to secure the top positions as pupils from private schools maintained their high scoring streaks.
