Private sector boosts education infrastructure in Elgeyo-Marakwet

The Government has reaffirmed the critical role of the private sector in advancing Kenya’s socio-economic transformation, following the commissioning of key education projects in Elgeyo-Marakwet County supported by the M-Pesa Foundation.
Leaders on Friday presided over the opening of newly constructed dormitories at St. Michael Embobut Secondary School, a project fully sponsored by the Foundation to improve student accommodation and create a more conducive learning environment. Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, leaders commended the Foundation for its continued investment in education infrastructure, noting that such partnerships are key to ensuring no region of the country is left behind in development.
The M-Pesa Africa CEO, Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, led the Foundation’s delegation, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to supporting modern learning facilities across the country.
In addition to the dormitories, leaders led by interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen officially opened new classrooms and a modern kitchen at St. Gabriel Chorwa Mixed Day Comprehensive School, facilities expected to significantly enhance teaching and learning experiences.
The Government directed National Government Administration Officers to strictly enforce policies supporting the Ministry of Education’s goal of achieving 100 percent transition to Senior School, emphasizing the importance of ensuring every learner progresses through the education system.
Among those present were Karen Basiye, Director for Sustainable Business and Social Impact at Safaricom Foundation; former Marakwet East MP Jebii Kilimo; former Inspector General David Kimaiyo; and technology lawyer Stephen Kiptiness, among other leaders.
The projects underscore the growing collaboration between government and private sector players in strengthening the country’s education system and expanding access to quality learning facilities.
The Foundation has sponsored many projects in the country.
