Probe as two men die after dispute escalates into murder and mob killing in West Pokot

Two men in their 30s died in Pokot Central Sub-County, West Pokot County, following an altercation that escalated into a suspected murder and a subsequent mob killing.

According to police, Kibet Siwatany and Danford Psorot, both male adults, had an argument at around 8pm on October 4 in PKSA Village, Cheptulel Location.

The disagreement reportedly turned violent, with Psorot allegedly striking Kibet on the head with a sharp object, leaving him unconscious.

Kibet was rushed to Endough Health Centre and later referred to Iten Mission Hospital for further treatment. He succumbed to his injuries at around 4am on October 5.

Police said members of Psorot’s family, upon learning of Kibet’s death, allegedly attacked him fearing retaliation by the deceased’s family.

Police rushed to the scene and found Psorot’s body lying in his compound.

The body had serious injuries to the head and legs, with visible fractures around the neck.

Police photographed and documented the scene as investigations commenced.

However, Psorot’s family reportedly declined to allow his body to be taken to the mortuary for preservation and postmortem examination.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding both deaths.

And police in Nandi East Sub-County are investigating the death of a 38-year-old man whose body was found about 19 metres from his house at Migoywet Trading Centre.

The deceased, identified as Abraham Kiptoo Koech, was found with a visible injury on the upper part of his left eye, according to police.

The man’s wife told police that Koech returned home at around 3am after a drinking spree and slept on a chair.

She said that at about 8am, he was found lying unconscious on the ground.

Police processed the scene and moved the body to Nandi Hills Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.

The deceased’s wife has been placed in police custody to assist investigators with the probe and, according to police, for her own safety as investigations continue.
