Prominent Makueni businessman and founder of Makindu Motors Ltd, Stephen Ngei and his wife, Giannaphina Mumbua Ngei, died following a tragic road accident at Masimba in Makueni County.

The couple reportedly lost their lives in the accident that occurred on Friday night, sending shockwaves across Makueni County and the wider Ukambani region.

The news of their deaths has been met with grief and disbelief, with leaders, friends and members of the business community mourning the loss of a man widely regarded as one of the most successful entrepreneurs and investors in the region.

Ngei founded Makindu Motors Ltd, an automobile company specializing in the assembly and sale of motorcycles and other motor vehicles.

Another family member who was part of the team is receiving treatment with serious injuries.

The deaths were confirmed in a statement by Kibwezi West Member of Parliament Mwengi Mutuse, who said he had received the news with great shock and disbelief.

In his Facebook post, Mutuse described Ngei as a close associate and “brother,” noting that he was the founder of Makindu Motors Ltd, an automotive company involved in the assembly and distribution of motorcycles and other motor vehicles.

“Mr. Stephen Ngei was the founder of Makindu Motors Ltd, an automobile company that specializes in the assembly and sale of motorcycles and other motor vehicles, stated Mutuse.

Mwengi eulogized the late businessman as a self-made entrepreneur who rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most successful investors in the Ukambani region. According to him, Ngei’s journey inspired many and contributed significantly to job creation and the socio-economic growth of the region.

Mutuse also extended his condolences to the bereaved family, noting that they were personally known to him and formed part of their wider community.

Ngei was an entrepreneur in the Ukambani region and had built a strong reputation in Kenya’s motorcycle business sector.

Through Makindu Motors, he helped expand access to motorcycles across the country, with the company recognized for distributing the popular Skygo motorcycles.
