Margaret Njai, Nyamome primary school pupil on Tuesday drowned in an unfinished swimming pool at a hotel in Suna West sub-county, Migori.
Her schoolmates said they were fetching firewood when she ran to the pool and dived in head first.
“She earlier bought a swimming costume in town and wanted to test it. She had drowned by the time we got there,” one said.
Migori OCPD Gladys Rutere said they will take action against the facility’s owners.
“It was not fenced off and there was no warning sign. We are investigating claims of negligence,” she said.
The class seven pupil’s body was taken to Migori Level Four Hospital mortuary.
