Pwani Oil Founder Naresh Malde Dies

Pwani Oil Products Limited has announced the death of its founder, Naresh Malde.

In a statement released on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, the company described Malde as a visionary leader whose work helped shape the identity and growth of the firm.

“It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of our esteemed founder, Naresh Malde,” the statement read. “This loss is deeply felt across our organization, as Mr. Naresh played an instrumental role in the establishment and growth of Pwani Oil Products.”

Malde founded Pwani Oil several decades ago, growing it from a small family business into one of East Africa’s leading manufacturers of edible oils, soaps, and detergents. Under his leadership, household brands such as Fresh Fri, Salit, and Sawa became widely used in homes across the region.

He was remembered as a leader of integrity and foresight, committed not only to business success but also to the welfare of employees and the community. He supported education and health programs in the Coast region, often doing so quietly and without publicity.

“His vision and dedication have been central to the success of Pwani Oil Products. His contributions will always be remembered and celebrated,” the company said.

Tributes have continued to pour in from business leaders and public figures.

Former Cabinet Minister and Member of Parliament Najib Balala mourned Malde as a hardworking local industrialist.

“Deeply saddened by the passing of Naresh Malde, the founder of Pwani Oil,” Balala said. “His vision, hard work, and commitment to local enterprise transformed Pwani Oil into one of Kenya’s most trusted homegrown brands. His legacy will continue to inspire generations of entrepreneurs along our Coast and beyond.”

Pwani Oil extended condolences to his family, friends, and the entire company community.

“May his soul rest in eternal peace,” the statement added.
