By birth, she belongs to the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, and through marriage she became part of the Spanish royal House of Bourbon.

She studied at El Nasr Girls’ College in Egypt, attended Schloss Salem boarding school in Germany, and later pursued studies at University of Cambridge and Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge.

In 1960, she represented Greece in sailing and won a gold medal with the Greek team at the Summer Olympics.
