Red Bryant was born on April 18, 1984, in Jasper. He later attended Texas A&M University, where he played college football for the Texas A&M Aggies football.
Bryant was redshirted in 2003, the same year he was named a team captain. During his freshman season, he transitioned into the defensive tackle position and started every game. His strong performances earned him All-American and All-Big 12 honors from The Gridiron Report.
In his junior season, Bryant was voted a permanent team captain but played only nine games before undergoing surgery for a torn ACL. Despite the setback, he returned for his senior year and recorded:
