Many were caught by surprise as two former IEBC commissioners; Connie Maina and Margaret Mwachanya, showed up at the commission’s Anniversary Towers offices on Friday.

“They’ve been holed up in their respective offices since they arrived,” a source told a local daily.

On August 10, Justice Wilfrida Okwany ruled that four commissioners; Vice Chairperson Connie Nkatha Maina, Commissioners Margaret Mwachanya and Paul Kurgat did not follow the right procedure when they stepped down from office and are therefore still in office.

Justice Okwany noted that the commissioners did not tender their resignation letters to President Uhuru Kenyatta who he says was the appointing authority.

Instead, he said they resigned via a press statement.
