Kenya’s Ambassador to the United States, Amb. Robinson Githae is being accused by Kenyans in the Diaspora of exporting corruption to the USA.

The Kenyan Embassy is based in Washington D.C. but he, Githae has organised a consular service exercise in Kansas State that will start on October 6-7, 2018.

To most Kenyans abroad, this is good news, as opposed to flying all the way to Washington DC in non-stop flight that would be two and a half hours or a normal flight that would be 4 hours away.

But the terms that are coming with the visit have left most of the Kenyans abroad in shock.

While an ordinary 32 page Kenyan passport costs KSh4,500, the embassy is charging KSh7,500 to Kenyans in diaspora.

An additional KSh7,500 is also charged as service fee, bringing the total to KSh 15,000.

Amb. Robinson Githae is being accused of taking advantage of Kenyans abroad and requesting for about KSh16,000 in total per person.

Upon contact to one of Ambassador Githae’s handler for clarification of this amount, his response was that the fee will be used to cover the Ambassador’s hotel and flight expenses.

Kenyans in diaspora are required to pay the service fee ahead of the consular service exercise in October and the money raised to at least KSh6 million or the event will be cancelled.

With over 100,000 Kenyans living in the USA, the total charges may amount to over one billion shillings if people were to pay the fees.

Angry Kenyans have called out the Ambassador and have said that they are frustrated with the his leadership and are calling for the Kenyan government to intervene.
