Ruto congratulates Hichilema on re-election, vows to deepen Kenya-Zambia ties

President William Ruto has congratulated Zambian President-elect Hakainde Hichilema following his re-election, describing his victory as a demonstration of the confidence Zambians have in his leadership.

In a congratulatory message, President Ruto said Hichilema’s “resounding and decisive victory” reflected his dedication, perseverance and commitment to advancing Zambia’s development.

Ruto extended his congratulations on behalf of the Kenyan Government and people, as well as in his own capacity, following the election held on August 13.

“Your resounding and decisive victory is a testament to your unwavering dedication, perseverance and commitment to the advancement of Zambia,” Ruto said.

The Kenyan President said Hichilema’s victory was also an affirmation of the trust Zambians had placed in his leadership to steer the country towards greater development and prosperity.

Ruto further emphasised the longstanding relationship between Kenya and Zambia, describing the two countries as close partners whose ties have grown through bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

“Kenya holds its relations with the Republic of Zambia in high esteem,” Ruto said, noting that the two countries had fostered “deep and enduring cooperation” over the years.

He described Zambia not only as a brotherly nation but also as a valuable partner and ally in the region.

Ruto said Kenya looked forward to working closely with Hichilema during his second term to strengthen and broaden the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

The President wished Hichilema success in his second term and expressed hope for continued peace, unity and prosperity for the people of Zambia.

The message comes as Kenya continues to position itself as an active player in regional diplomacy and African cooperation, with Nairobi maintaining relations with governments across the continent on trade, development, security and multilateral affairs.

Hichilema’s re-election gives him another mandate to pursue his administration’s development agenda while maintaining Zambia’s engagement with regional and international partners.
